Tell Your Senator to Reform the Farm Bill
The Farm Bill is a mammoth but little-known piece of legislation that governs our nation's agricultural policies. It affects everyone who eats, not just those who farm. The U.S. Senate is voting on the 2007 Farm Bill tomorrow, so your voice can make a difference on this important issue.
Please urge your senators to support the FRESH Act, which would reform the unfair system of commodity subsidies to be more equitable for farmers both in the United States and around the world.
To make your call:
- Call the Senate switchboard at (202) 225-3121, and ask for the office of one of your state's senators. (Don't know who your senator is? Click here to find out.)
- When you reach the office, tell the person answering that you're a constituent, and give your message, for example:
I'm calling to ask Senator _______ to vote for meaningful reform in Title 1 of the Farm Bill, by supporting the FRESH Act, sponsored by Senators Lugar and Lautenberg, and the Grassley-Dorgan Payment Limits Amendment. Both would help ensure that our crop subsidies go to struggling farmers who need them and don't hurt poor farmers in the developing world.
- Make a second call to your state's other senator.
- Let us know you called by filling out the form to the right.
