Tell President Bush to support SCHIP
"Let the little children come to me; do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of God belongs." (Mark 10:14b)
Republicans and Democrats in Congress have come together to pass legislation which would reauthorize and expand the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP), providing health care coverage to 4 million children who are currently uninsured.
But despite overwhelming bipartisan support, President Bush is threatening to veto this critical legislation. Ask President Bush what happened to his "compassionate conservatism" -- and urge that he sign the bill.

Subject: Support children's health insurance
Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,
When you took office, you said "we know that deep, persistent poverty is unworthy of our nation's promise," and that "whatever our views of its cause, we can agree that children at risk are not at fault."
Yet now, almost seven years later, you are threatening to veto a groundbreaking piece of legislation which would provide health care for millions of children without coverage -- children who should not suffer because of a narrow ideological argument. What happened to your noble intentions?
The reauthorization of the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) has overwhelming bipartisan support. I urge you to reconsider your position and sign this important legislation.
Sincerely,
|
