We're sorry, this alert is no longer available.

The short explanation of this alert was:

Don’t just sing about God’s love and justice, act on it this Christmas! Sign the pledge, and we’ll send you an e-mail of ideas to share with your friends and family.

Peace and Justice Christmas Pledge
In honor and celebration of the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ, I will act on my faith this Christmas. I will serve, love, and share with my neighbors; respect God’s creation in my consumer choices; and pray for God’s peace around the world.

Ideas for a Peace and Justice Christmas

Welcome a Stranger.
Show hospitality to an immigrant or refugee by welcoming them to your church or family celebrations.

Pray for Reconciliation. Gather around the tree and pray for peace between Israel and Palestine, India and Pakistan, or Red America and Blue America.

Have a Green Christmas. Recycle the tree, make your own wrapping paper, or start a compost bin with leftover food scraps.

Fast through the Silent Night. Choose to fast on Christmas Eve on behalf of the suffering people of Zimbabwe and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Carol for Justice. Organize a night of singing carols that originate from countries that currently experience war, hunger, or other deprivation.

Encourage Those Who Suffer Loss. Christmas is a hard season for people who have lost a loved one. Send a note of encouragement to someone you know in this place.

Do a Stewardship Swap. Give to a charity in a friend or family member’s name instead of the usual gift exchange.

Light a Candle for Life. Remember those who do not hold their life in their hands. Volunteer with a prison ministry, give supplies to a teen pregnancy center, and pray for those hidden behind dictator-enforced walls of silence.

Bring Cheer to the Lonely. Take your children or church small group caroling to a local hospital or nursing home. Ask residents to share their favorite Christmas memories.

Advocate for Peace on Earth. Send an e-mail to your friends and family, asking them to sign a petition on an issue of peace, such as having the United States sign the treaty to ban cluster bombs.

Buy Fair Trade. Choose fair trade certified products for your Christmas get-togethers. You’ll honor workers with your choice and purchase less.

Volunteer on Epiphany. Celebrate the gifts of the Magi by giving your time. Continue giving after Dec. 25 by serving mission organizations.

Be Different! Create your own way to honor the birth of Jesus this season. Share it with us at sojourners@sojo.net.
