Sojourners: Christians for Justice and Peace

SojoMail Speak Out

Thank you for your interest, but this campaign has expired.

On September 16, by a 53-41 vote, the Senate voted against an amendment to cut funding for new nuclear weapons out of the energy and water appropriations bill. (S 1424). They accepted, however, an amendment to allow research only - not development - of new nuclear weapons.

If the Administration decides to actually begin developing these weapons, they must return to Congress for another vote. As the House of Representatives did cut most of the funding from their bill, the differences will now go to a conference committee.

More than 11,000 emails were sent to Senate offices by SojoMail readers. Even though the Senate vote failed, we will continue to work against a new generation of nuclear weapons.

Your support is critical to our continued efforts for justice and peace.
