Tell the Truth - Fox & Friends

In fact, 2008 Census Bureau statistics showed that 46 million people were uninsured - that's 15 percent, not 5 percent, of the population - and we don't know how many people have lost insurance in 2009 due to the recession, or how many are underinsured. What we do know is that all people should have access to quality, affordable health insurance.

E-mail Steve Doocy (and Fox & Friends advertisers), asking him to tell the truth about the current state of health care. As Jesus challenged the leaders of his time with prophetic parables, add your voice to those telling these true stories about the real state of health care in America.

Because your show, with the support of your advertisers, is in a position to influence public perception, I urge you to tell the whole truth about the need for health-care reform in our nation.

You recently said that 90 percent of Americans have some health-care coverage. However, the latest Census Bureau statistics show that 15 percent of us are uninsured - and not everyone who has health care has coverage that benefits the patient as well as the insurance company.

I ask that you tell stories like that of Amy, below, so that even those who are happy with their own coverage can better understand the need for reform:

"As a person with an 'uninsurable' chronic illness (multiple sclerosis) - I live in fear that someday I will lose my very good - and very expensive - coverage and become unable to pay for my very good - and very, very expensive - medication.

"I feel fortunate to be able to pay what I have in order to be able to get this treatment. It means that I can continue to work full time and continue to pay taxes rather than being on disability...

"Right now I am poised to have a successful private practice. I hope to provide quality mental health services to children. However, I am unable to leave my current job because I cannot buy insurance, and I cannot go without coverage.

"As a mental health provider, I have also done battle on the other side, working extra hours to get insurance to pay me for services the client is entitled to under their policy. I know that, for me, the current system is fraught with fear and headaches. Why does this expensive, elitist, and discriminatory system garner such loyalty?"

Thank you for considering this story. We may not agree on the specific proposals for reform, but surely we can agree that all people should have access to quality, affordable health insurance.
